This is the North Carolina Real Estate Commission’s 2023-2024 Commercial General Update course for the renewal period July 1, 2023 through June 10, 2024.
Topics discussed include:
This four (4) hour* course must be completed by all provisional and non-provisional brokers who are not brokers-in-charge and/or do not have BIC-Eligible status and who wish to renew their licenses on active status.
The North Carolina Real Estate Commission receives over 1000 calls per year from real estate agents, buyers, sellers and others involved in a real estate transaction. The calls range from general queries to reports of dishonest conduct and fraud. Generally, the problem is miscommunication or no communication or a misunderstanding of the broker’s role and duties.
Brokers make mistakes. So do sellers, buyers, lenders, inspectors, appraisers, attorneys and others. Typically these mistakes by brokers are made because the broker (or their supervisor) is unfamiliar with some of the “rules of the road”.
For the purpose of this course, the “rules of the road” include:
– Sound business practices, common sense & clear communication.
– North Carolina real estate license law and administrative rules.
– REALTOR® Code of Ethics (for brokers who are REALTORS®).
We will look at the most common issues commercial brokers encounter. These are compiled unscientifically – from disciplinary action shown in the NCREC Bulletin and from personal experience based upon calls received from brokers.
